Juneau Forklift Parts - Juneau, Alaska is the states capital city. It is considered a unified city and is located in the Alaska Panhandle on the Gastineau Channel. In 1970, the Borough and City of Juneau was created when the city of Douglas, the city of Juneau along with the Greater Juneau Borough merged to form a home rule municipality. The existing City and Borough population is around 31,000.

Juneau covers a land area that is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode island combined. The downtown of Juneau sits at sea level and is also Mount Juneau's base. Douglas Island is located across the channel.

Juneau has undergone three name changes over the years. From Rockwell to Harrisburg and ultimately to Juneau after Joe Juneau. All three names including the existing name were named after prospectors. The indigenous people of the area, the Tlingit, referred to the area Dzántik'i Héeni, which means "river where the flounders gather." Many local geographic features take their name from the Tlingit, such as the Taku River, that was named after the t'aakh, a cold wind that comes down from the mountains. Auke Bay north of Juneau is referred to as Aak'w, which means "little lake".

The mountains all-around the city of Juneau vary from 1,100 m to 1,200 m in height. The Juneau Icefield sits on top of these high mountains, dispersing water from approximately 30 glaciers. People can see two glaciers from the road, the Mendenhall Glacier and the Lemon Creek Glacier.

Juneau City has been the Alaska state capital since 1906, when the capital was moved from Sitka. Government is by far the biggest employer in the city of Juneau. A lot of residents are employed by the state government, municipal government or federal government. The airport, harbors, hospital, University of Alaska Southeast and school district are all run by the government. Approximately 25% of Juneau's economy is indirectly and directly dependent on state government offices.

Tourism is largely seasonal but still contributes significantly to the economy. Cruise ships travel through the city of Juneau between may and September, bringing practically one million tourists to the area. These visitors usually stay in Juneau just for a short time, up to around 11 hours.

Fishing was once be the dominant industry within the city of Juneau back in the days when the halibut schooner fleet operated here. Nowadays, the fishing industry is still important to the local economy. Juneau is considered the 45th most profitable US fisheries port by value and 49th by volume. The fish and shellfish caught here is valued at roughly 20 million dollars on a yearly basis.
